I am gonna be honest. I am 33. I have been playing games for a very long time now. And I have to say, the process of updating the game is so tedious. I have followed these instructions but to no avail. Honestly, I don't understand why their are so many associated "programs" for DA??? I SHOULD just be able to log onto a site and download the update. With DA?? Hitting "update game" just opens another program with no mention of a patch AND flushing the settings as stated above does nothing. It shouldn't be this difficult. Seriously.

I'm a little confused by this statement.

I load up Stardock Central and it pops up a dialog that says "GalCiv has been updated". I press the update button and it gets updated.

You may also need to check 'Show pre-release versions' (it's shown at the foot of the Games page in Stardock Central) in order to see the latest update. You'll know yourself that fixes released between major patches for a game can also introduce new problems, so by default I think it is unchecked.

When SDC finds an update and you okay it, the actual updating process is relatively straightforward.

that's what I had to do. thanks. I think it is working. Still not as intuitive as it could be.

Thanks for the info Drengin, though i'm with Starstriker1, shame the defense issue is not in there. Could we expect a fix for this soon?

I'm not aware of the issue. This issue only recently popped into the bug tracker.  People need to realize that posting on the forums alone doesn't garauntee we know about it.  If it weren't for Kyro, it would still be unknown.

When was this introduced? We haven't touched defenses other than the values in the XML since release.

If I had to guess, it's been in DA since the start of the new combat system... its only recently been noticed due to the fact that you can get your money's worth in defenses again. It only really becomes noticable once the defense starts reaching into the double digits.

I would imagine far more bugs are reported on these forums rather than are e-mailed to Stardock and would imagine this will always be the case. It's certainly a lot easier reporting a bug on the forums and getting pretty much instant feedback from other players as to whether anyone else is experiencing similar problems. Of the many bugs I have personally encountered in Gal Civ 2 DL+DA only one have I e-mailed about yet I have posted many times that amount of bugs on the forums.

I'm sure theres a message somewhere, perhaps players including myself need to e-mail Stardock more about bugs rather than just posting on the forums and the devs probably need to spend more time reading and replying to forum posts (although having said that Stardock are much better than some games companies I have encountered).

Well, during some of the beta of DA, I'm not sure if the off-type defences bug existed yet. If you read the combat example here it specifically says that not all sources of defence degradation were accounted for in the 2A build, but they would be in the next build.

Ok, so I installed via the archive feature but my game still says 1.5x2 yet in SDC it says 1.5x.72. Is there a reason why it does not say 1.5x3 in the game like it should?

Also, just to note, there is no way to update it any further as SDC says it is the latest version.

Any help or way to check if I am in the correct version?

It wouldn't surprise me if the off-type defense problems existed ever since first customer ship; they just weren't detected because defenses were so expensive.

Another issue is, the problem with defense is that it doesn't work as advertised. But--how is it advertised to work?? All we know is from a thread posted back in the beta. And that doesn't spell out clearly what happens if you have multiple weapon types & multiple defense types on each ship.

OK just checked!!!! Sorry for the double post but the archive process is messed up. Come on stardock, get your act together and think of the people without native internet access.

I am now screwed as the archive I have does not fix the bug with fow yet SDC says I have the latest version and cannot update the game with SDC.

I hate to say it but unless there are going to be stand alone patches, this game is going bye bye and I will no longer support Stardock.

I think it's a pretty standard problem for all games that it's next to impossible to get patches without native internet access. I bring up SDC and I have no problem getting updates. But I guess it makes sense that you might want to download a self-extracting file and burn that to CD for your offline machine.

I think I may have found the issue, but it is not on my end. I believe that the archive feature is pointing to the old patch not the new one yet has the new flag. Stardock, please check that for me so I can install the new patch. On my work machine with internet it installed fine with the new patch, it is just the archive that is messed up.

My gripe is only when you have someone post a about something (like this) and then, less than a week later, having users start to impatiently say "I can't believe Stardock hasn't fixed this!"  As if, by magic, a post on a forum trsnaltes into an update a week later.

An issue like this can't just be tweaked. There's debate on how best to handle it.

I'm sorry to hear that. You should contact support regarding getting the update. You should be able to just archive it and move it to another machine an unarchive it.

In case you missed it Frogboy, can you forward this on to your people as I am really sick and tired of emailing support and customer service.

Brad,
If you're referring to the defense bug, it was brought up here in the forums immediately after 1.5X was released. There are several forum topics dedicated to this issue. It would have been difficult to miss.

Ok fair enough, impatient we may be. But posting on the forums about bugs as aposed to emailing to bug reports is about 3 times more effective. Now i understand you guys are busy and all, but when posting on the forum you get,

1) Help and advice from other players,
2) A quick and informative response from Kryo(among others),
3) Known awareness of the issue at hand

and finally a suitable place to vent your frustration about the issue in a constructive and non confrontational way.

Now i understand that emailing bug reports is Stardocks preferred method of bug reporting, and i know many people use it, but when the forums offer these advantages which you cannot get from emailing, you can understand why so many people will prefer to use the forums over the emailing choice.

Granted one should not expect magical things to happen, but it has been shown that the best way to try...is here on the forums.

The forums are the best place to garnish the newest information about the game, for the players...and for feedback for the devs.
