Hi all and welcome to the Tyranny of Evil. The Tyranny of Evil is a dedicated Metaverse empire that has risen to prominence in just 1 year. 2nd place on the AltMeta and a soon to be 3rd place in the MV is no small feat from an empire with ~39 active players.

We pride ourselves on being one of the most active empires in the MV or the Altmeta, and it is that activity that makes us unique. Our members are active submitters of games and have a very strong and prominent forum presence.

Please visit our official home at out private forums where you can find many topics covering game strategies, Metaverse League chat and general gaming and Sci-Fi threads amongst many others.

Oh yeah, Brad said.

That's cool, though I doubt they will get it out any time soon.

BTW - I'm curious as to what you think I will do, Seth. Yes, I am obviously going to make a post, but I'm going to take it a little further then that. Let me put it to you this way - I am going to have a VERY long weekend.

Thought you were gonna hack the forums.

Cypher, the best thing you can do is chill. i'm not saying that because i'm opposed to drastic action, but because i've seen how SD and other groups of people react. it's a losing battle - and if you really piss off certain people, you could be banned from these forums entirely. we've all tried to list our dissatisfactions to SD - diplomatically and otherwise - and we've had some successes but mostly met brick walls and needless insults. besides that, they're a pretty good chance you won't actually reach the people you intend to reach - many who still play GC2 don't visit these forums much, and these forums  are over-run with non-GC2 stuff anyway.

if anything, the best thing you can do is make some friends on here, stick to the posts you know, and also encourage people to visit and register at the ToE website. they don't have to be part of the empire to participate in the publc forums. that's my opinion anyway. consider starting a new thread at ToE to discuss some of the challenges you're having, things you'd like to try, and particular aspects of the game you're trying to improve on.

just remember that many of us have been playing this game for years. i started in October of 2005 shortly after DL came out. for many of us, there isn't a whole lot left to discuss and hash out - but we're certainly happy to discuss what we've already learned with others (especially if they're in our own empire). the i-mod website might also have some additional player activity worth checking out (i can't say for sure, as i've never been there).

Heheh. Seth - if I could do that, believe me, I would. But I am not quite that smart (yet). Hacking the forums actually did come to mind, but there's that whole issue of hacking being illegal in most parts of the civilised world, and as I said before, I don't know how.

BTW - Did Brad say when this GalCiv3 game would make its debut, or is it still in the early thought process?

Early thought.

I sent some suggestions to SD but they wouldn't listen.

They did give a guestimite on what year, but I forget.  The main thing to know on when it'll come out when you look at their development scedule is that GC3 will be based off of the engine for Elemental.  So, until Elemental is done, don't even think to see hide nor hair of GC3.

What Loup said.

@ dystopic (and everyone else who's reading this):

Don't worry - maybe saying "drastic" action was a poor choice of words. I'm not going to say anything bad about SD. Personally, even though I don't approve of some of the things that they have done, I must say that we owe it to them for making Galactic Civilizations. I also don't think my post will piss anyone off. I'm not going to blame, slander, or flame anyone - I'm just going to try and get people back into GalCiv2. I won't (intentionally) do anything to tick anyone off. I just want to see if I can stir some general approval and renewed interest in the game. If you haven't noticed - I really don't have too many posts were I actually flame anyone.

I'm really glad with how welcoming everyone was when I first came to the forums and the MV. I try to make friends every time I post somewhere - I never want to hurt someone's reputation or their feelings by saying something bad about them.

Your idea of starting a new thread is a very good idea. I think that would be pretty cool. As you can see, my stats in the MV are not the best in the world, so I could always have room to improve. Just for everyone's general amusement - I tried my first eer Suicidal sandbox game on TA - OMG I got my sorry little arse kicked. It wasn't even funny. Well, kind of. Let's just put it this way - I lasted 1 yr. and 2 months. I had about 10 military ships, and the Thalan had about 100. Ouch. Once they declared war on me, it only took them 10 turns to overrun me. Again, ouch.

I have nothing but respect for all of you experienced players. I just hope that if I make a post or two, I might get some interest out of someone that's just browsing the forum. There seem to be quite a few people who play the game still, but they just don't play MV. I also hope to spur some of the veterans to maybe post an MV game or two every once and a while. I think my little campaign to get the forums back on track is going to turn out to be more of a refresher on why this game is so incredible. Once again - I'm a pretty toned down guy.

BTW - until someone can find another player who frequently has longer posts and replies then me (besides kryo or mumblefratz), I'm going to claim the title of King of the Long Winded Posts! I do tend to get a little carried away sometimes. Sorry. Best Regards.

if you post it in these forums, do me a favor and link to the thread in this one; otherwise i'll probably miss it, and i'd like to participate.

with comments like that, i can certainly tell that you're learning some of the forum personalities i'm going to start a thread on the ToE site with links to some of the interesting and useful threads we've had in here over the past. there's a lot of great information archived in the site, but the problem is finding it. as a tip, rather than using the forum search, use google. search for whatever phrase you want, and then add "site:forums.galciv2.com" to the end. it's pretty effective.

Well, DivineWrath's TA 101 post is quite long...but that is a guide, just as is my DA/TA Espionage post.  Zyxpsilon often gets long winded...and seems to speak in a different form of english at times... Most of my replies are short individually, but in a span of time you could find a book written by me as I'm more of a conversationalist than a speach writer.  Back-n-forth=win.

I tend to gloss over long posts unless it's a topic I'm HIGHLY interested in and it has numbers (numbers=information if it's a heavy-bodied post lol...at least in my warped mind).  Short-sweet posts that just get to the point work well for me.  I have a busy day of doing nothing, so fitting in reading long posts is hard.../cough

OT here, but should the MVL link be cut from the OP?  At least while it's no longer up and running?

Hey guys:

I've done it! I've created my 1st installment of my plan to renew the passion for GalCiv2. The post is named (fittingly) - A Call to Action - Renew Your Passion. If you guys have any suggestions on how to make my campaign go even better, feel free to chime in.

BTW - I'm pretty sure that my title as King of Long-Winded Posts was confirmed with this new post. It's a doozy! Best Regards.

I think GC3 was suposed to be like 2012 ot something like that...a long ways off.

As to GC2 losing it's popularity, of course it is.  That's the natural life-cycle of any game.  Once new updates, expansions, and content stops being made you will soon see a steady decline in the number of people who play a game.  I still play 1 or 2 ZYWs most days, and last night I start another Swindle, but most of my gaming time is being spent on other games at the moment.  I recently played through The Witcher twice, and also Starcontrol II. There are other games I am really looking forward to that will be coming out over the next year like Empire: Total War, and Elemental War of Magic by Stardock.

There are some people like myself, that will be around here indefinitely, but people playing and on the forums will keep dropping off.  My empire had its best month just this past October, but I doubt we'll ever surpass that month.  I appreciate your enthusiasm Cypher and it's good to have you on the forums, but I think there's nothing any one player, or even a group of players, can do that will change that natural process in a significant way.  And that's ok, in my opinion.  I feel no sadness or regret at the prospect, for we have had, and are still having a great time with this awesome game.

I agree with you KP. I still made my post because it might be what renews the passion for the game in a few players, and, for me, that's all that really matters. This is really an awesome game, and I don't think I'll ever get tired of it, either. Thanks KP. Best Regards.

Once the Mv I fixed I will play a few games butby then my empire will be down in ranks.

on Jan 02, 2009

@ Seth: I'd be happy to commit a character to your empire to help with the standings, if you would like me to.
