I wish the account image upload feature was working, amongst many othger things. I have been trying to update my avatar for over a week and it just sits there and tells me i have no image loaded.

Ok...back to being silent now..........

on Sep 16, 2008

Yea the image upload was broke for all browsers for few days, but it does work for IE now. Still doesn't work for FF though.

on Sep 16, 2008

Ohhhhh ok. Mr Scott, switch browsers please........

if you go to forums.stardock.com, you'll be able to access your full account information and be able to change your avatars

on Sep 16, 2008

Well i havent been able to get on for about 4 hours now...and that was with wincustomize.com, impulsedriven.com, forums.stardock.com here or through impulse itself.

If i'm gonna see the "Ehgads, Forums go Boom!" all the time the lest they could do is make the page nice and pretty....

I have discovered a new race of people. I'll call them Neverwonganites...

They have an opinion on a matter and that opinion is considered fact, no matter what you may or may not have to say on the matter. Furthermore, your opinion on said matter is actually an insult and you will now be berated for opening your mouth and sharing your opinion...opps i mean insult. they are many in number and have the ability to change their appearance. Even those whom you may have thought a normal person previously may actually be a Neverwronganite.

It seems outside of my little world of GC2 in the big pool of Stardockia there are many...many of the Neverwronganites. I seem to be alergic to the opinion that each of these new beings possess and as such may have to leave. It seems we here in GC2 land have been immune to these beings untill now but we are being invaded and i just don't think i can withstand their assaults without channelling Wheel or ES through me to fend them off.

You know, honestly I'm not sure what to think. Though I do have a mild interest in some of these other products(the ones I use) I still don't feel we need to see them all in our face on a gaming forum. I have just come from several other gaming forums that aren't SDs and guess what? They're talking almost exclusively about the game the forums were created for . I know I know, you can't believe it, but yea they really are.

Before the GC2 forums I had only ever posted in a forum for tech help on something and never got involed in anything else on said forum, but the great community of helpful and friendly people with a likeminded interest got me over my, shall I say fear of getting involved. Sadly that place is no more. Now you have what looks like a forum full of people and threads that have nothing to do with why people come to GalCiv2.com. If that wasn't bad enough a lot of the "new" crowd seem to have some sort of comprehension and social skills issues. When WCs main moderator's way of handling every situation is with smart ass wisecracks it's no wonder the rest follow suit.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want to generalize too much because I have been impressed with some of the peopls ability to hold rational discussion. Just too bad it doesn't seem to be the norm overall. As I told Neilo in IM, I am just washing my hands of the whole thing. I'll still be around just scaled back and staying within GC2/gaming topics for the most part. Just the sifting through the crap can be annoying at times.

Too bad the GC1 forum is using old crappy software. It is out on it's island unconnected to this mess. We could start a drive to get those interested in only GC2 topics over there otherwise and take it over. Since it is almost totally dead I doubt anyone would mind. I doubt anyone would like the ancient forum software there though. Tyrannyofevil.com should take over as the GC2 forums, it's more dedicated to gaming and GC2 than the official site is now.

Thats the nice thing about the TOE, Especially with some of the most active players aboard. You dont have to read some of the crap.

I just click on Metaverse when I want to see Metaverse topics and so forth.  The extra stuff doesn't bother me.  I find some of it interesting, but not much of it.  I only click on the recent posts when I'm particularly bored.  Not very often, that.

I'm stuck at work recovering some data on our main public server.  Been at it for about 10 hours now.  I thought it'd be a two hour thing, but there were more errors than I had anticipated.  On the plus side, it stopped me from being able to do much else, so I loaded up my DA Gigantic Map game on my client computer.  Got about 4 hours of quality gaming in so far.  I'm surrounded by 6 computers on my desk/credenza and can swivel around to do whatever.

I'd normally be programming some process controls while waiting, but I just finished a major project yesterday and put it online this morning before tackling the server.  The operators need time to aclimate to the new controls, so nothing new in the pipeline this week.

Is it just me, or is DA significantly slower than DL?  I mean in game play, not performance.  It's taken me almost 2 and a half years to take the galaxy down to one major.  And he still has three planets left until I can get his final one prepared.  My military is less than 1000 ships and my array isn't finished.

This being my first serious DA game, I know I have things to work out, but am I farther behind than I thought?

on Sep 17, 2008

Yeah it took me 3 tries to get DA going alot quicker than i did  with DL. In the end i found i basicaly had to near break my econ right at the point of starting the war cycles to get it to work. I did though and in my current game i have only the Thalans (the whole can't talk to the first person in the list problem) left and it is end of year 1. Still could be faster but getting there slowly.

on Sep 17, 2008

Yeah.  But I broke my econ the week before going to war in this game.  I usually do it on about that schedule, but this time, I'm around 2 years behind in the conquest part.

I have to admit it's a lot more interesting than DL was, just a bit slower going for now.  I enjoyed going back to invasion tactics to take the bulk of the galaxy.  I just discovered the fertility clinics too, this last turn.  They probably would have played a significant part in taking the galaxy had I noticed them before now.  I'll be sure to queue them up next game.

on Sep 17, 2008

If your going the invasion route then 2 years isn't bad at all. For a full Mumbler style, you should probably be able to have all but one planet by May of year one, July at the latest. The conquering part of DA actually went quicker for me than all my DL attempts. Where I started to see DA falling behind was in the cost and speed limitations of the array ships. Even with an econ event it would of took me almost three times as long to get up to 17K, hence the bailing at 4200 last game.
