Random thoughts and rants...
Superbowl XLVI
Published on February 2, 2012 By Neilo In Everything Else

Neither looked great in the conference finals, both doing just enough to get the W, so how will each team fair, and who will win the battle at QB?
The stats suggest a win by New England, and i tend to agree. Brady has played better than Manning all season and the Pats as a whole have looked more impressive over the regular season than the Giants did.

So, what say you???

Packers not playing?

Who cares?

I'm hoping Brady is sacked so many times he starts crying. Go Giants!

Patriots.

Over here I'd say it's gonna be the Aussies....India hasn't got a hope.....they may end up with 11 new call-centre members....

They couldn't even come close in the Twenty20 the other night, tonights game will be more of the same, more Hogg doing his old man shuffle!!

He did get dropped more than the norm against the ravens didn't he. But then again the Ravens Defense is a cut above the giants...

There's some hate for the Pats huh? That's one crucial part of the game i don't get to experience, fan reactions. Kinda hard to get into discussions about a game played 10, 000 miles away and with folks who don't understand it...

Thank frak for forums..

This must mean that Spring Training for Baseball will be starting soon.

The Patriots have been so successful over the past decade that I enjoy watching them lose. I'm also a Giants fan to begin with, so there's no love lost between me and the golden boy.

It's like this.... IF it was just Brady and Manning the Pats wouldn't stand a chance....just saying.

But then, IF your aunt had balls, she'd be your uncle.

But ... but ... if your Aunt is your Uncle how's your Uncle gonna do his thing. Weird.

Nope...India finally won something.

They may yet all get castrated but they won....something....

Meh! Twenty20 is not a real game, it's like going to Maccas and saying that you have been to a restaurant. Cricket junk food.

Go Patriots ...

I remember the last time I saw these two teams clash. I had picked New England and as luck would have it the Giants steamrolled 'em. It was as if the Giants loosed the 'Giants', bringing out the heavies and trouncing the Pats big time. This time around I'm going with the giants because I think they'll try the same thing again.
What planet do you live on? 17-14 is hardly a "trouncing" or being "steamrolled". The Giants won that game on pure luck, Tyree's helmet catch was only one of four lucky occurrences in the Giants last drive alone, any one of which would have changed the result of the game if it had gone the other way. If they replayed that game 10 times the Patriots win 9 of them.

As far as this game it's a bit of a different story. Eli is definitely a better quarterback now than he was then but people seem to have selective memories when it comes to comparing the two teams. Sure the Patriots defense sucked for most of the year which everyone and their brother is sure to point out but then the Giants lost 7 games in the regular season and lost twice to the pitiful Redskins. If you're going to give the Giants a pass for a mediocre at best regular season then you have to give the Patriots defense a pass for their regular season performance.

Plus the Giants vaunted defense is not nearly as good as the Ravens. All the Giants have are a superior front four, block them and their defense suddenly becomes extremely mediocre.

As a staunch Patriots fan I'm certainly routing for the Patriots and believe that they do have the edge but that it's a small edge and the Giants, with their regular season mediocrity notwithstanding, are a worthy adversary. The team that wins will be the team that plays better on Sunday, but if I were a Giants fan I'd have to be a bit concerned about their cavalier attitude and their expectations of victory as if all they need to do is show up. A Belichick coached team may lose but it will not lose because of inattention to detail. Making sure the heat was turned up during practice and interrupting practice for 45 minutes to simulate the actual conditions in a Super Bowl is something done by someone that has gone to 5 Super Bowls in the last decade winning 3 of them, so far. If that's not a dynasty then I don't know what is. But then success breeds contempt which is why the rest of the country hates the Patriots and wishes them to lose.

Quoting Uvah, reply 1I remember the last time I saw these two teams clash. I had picked New England and as luck would have it the Giants steamrolled 'em. If a meteor had crashed into Phoenix, it may not have mattered.  If a dragon had eaten both teams, it wouldn't have mattered either. If and maybe are irrelevant.  What happened happened.

So the Patriots awful, statistically worst in the NFL, defense is suddenly not mediocre?  They put the breaks on... the Broncos and the Ravens.  Two vaunted offenses that have stricken the hearts of opposing defenses all year....

As opposed to the Giants, who trounced two of the best offenses in the NFL, and then won a defensive struggle with the best overall defense in the NFL.

If I were a Patriots fan I'd be a bit concerned about Brady's mediocre playoff performances since Spygate.  He has been an undeniably different big game quarterback since then.  It may be coincidence, but it may not.  I'd also be concerned about playing a team we'd already lost to once this year that is significantly healthier and playing better than they were the last time they beat us.

Speaking of Spygate, it's not just success that breeds contempt.  So does cheating, whether Patriots fans like to admit it or not.

Also, the 45 minute practice break is a gimmick.

I'm a Giants fan, so I'm biased too.  I don't have a pick and am very concerned that the Giants will under perform and make themselves look foolish.  But let's not glaze over all the details.
