Random thoughts and rants...

I'm sure most users have had a look through all the sites under the Stardock banner, no matter what their "native" site may be but the two in particular i want people to be familiar with is Elemental and SINS, more specifically, their forums pages, and in particular, the page background images.

Elemental

SINS

Now, they look mighty nice, and to me really add something to the page. They both seem to reflect a grander scale, of something with depth and...well for lack of a better word, a soul.

Now in contrast take a look at the equivilent GC2 page,

GC2

The GC2 site just doesn't "pop" out at you like Elemental or SINS. The above to me looks bland, and gives an empty feeling to the site.
Now i know that all this is just perception and in no way affects the functionality of the site, but looks can make a huge difference, obviously, otherwise SD wouldn't exist at all.

The Demigod forums suffer from the lack of a powerful background image as well, though not quite to the same extent as GC2. The header on the Demigod forums is very nice, but the moment you scroll you lose the wonderful image.

Ok, so the point of all this, is it that difficult for Stardock to implement a background image on GC2? With GC2 on Steam now and as such a new audience, maybe a slight tweak to the site might brighten things up a bit and give the GC2 forums the same punch and effect that Elemental and SINS have.

I admit i know next to nothing about HTML or web site design in anyway, but i suspect that it's a walk in the park for SD.

Please voice your opinion and with any luck, if the community gets behind the idea, Brad and co may spruce up the place a little bit.

I should point out i know this may be better served by being posted in the GC2 General forums, but i wanted the rest of Stardockia's input, especially those at Wincustomize who have their fingers on the pulse of this sort of stuff.

I agree, the other places could use a new paint job...  Except for maybe WinCustomize.  I like their plain look, more places to draw on.

Agreed. JoeUser is fine as well.

Will do.  You make a very good point, and I agree with you on all counts.   GC2 has some very good art and even better music.  Putting a background image in the .css is not rocket science, and it will pay off big and may even help spur on a renaissance of GC2.

They will make it pretty when they announce Jon Shafer designing GalCiv 3.

I disagree. For a skinning/customizing site, the plain background WC uses is as vanilla as it gets. Where's the Art?

Bump.

Honestly, Sins and Elemental have brand new games coming out so their websites were updated as part of that.

I try not to think about how GalCiv2:TA was the best game Stardock has ever made, but has no publicized sequel in the works. I know that there are alot of projects in the works and he are not a massive company, but it sucks waiting a decade for a new installment. I hope freaking Jon Shafer is working on GalCiv: Fall From Quantum Heaven.

I end up liking everything they do though.
