Since I recently discovered that I can also be openly pure evil and don't have to hide behind pretended neutralism...I guess I can also join this empire.

Maybe sometime I may still pretend to be neutral, but that's for me just the most evil form of pure evil - tricking the others civs to believe you are sort of a "nice guy" - just to show 'em how wrong they were.

But beside that I just love to blow things up (I still want my Doom Star!) and best way to do that is with some decent weapons...!

I'm considering a move. I might bring my main character over from the HCH. The reasons are that I feel a lot more comfortable here and the "fun" part of this empire suits me better than the "mature" theme of the HCH.

I joined the HCH when Alex was under attack from ouside the empire. I wanted to show my support for him while that played out. That's now over with and I feel like I've done my part there.

Thoughts? I'd particularly like to hear from MarshallONeil and neilo, since they're in both empires.

If I'm gone for a couple of days, I'm not ignoring anyone. Our CEO just flew in and I'm required to go to a lunch today, dinner tonight and meetings all day tomorrow with him. (I hate politics, but what can one do?) Things should be back to normal next week.

Funny you should mention that Motti. I was only thinking to myself earlier on that i have seen far more action here in the Tyranny thread in our short life then in some months over on the HCH thread. That is my only gripe with HCH, seems a little too quite and a little reserved. That being said, my centurion neilo character will remain at the HCH as i am working to get that character into the top 25 and i have done most of that work within the ranks of the HCH, previously i was with the Colonial Fleet.

But i fully intend on making Bad Muther Fraker my main, and eventually default, character. I just will wait till i have a few more medals first (insert ego here), so i can fully understand your desire to make this your permanent home. I love the fun here and hope we can continue to grow.

With regards to "attack on alex", i must have missed that, so i cannot commment, but i for one think that if your not happy there (or anywhere really) than change. This is a game after all and if anything to do with the game is not as fun as you want, then by all means do what has to be done.

Many people have called many empires their home, i believe the HCH lost a few to the Gerontocracy (sp) recently, it may seem as if there is a problem but i think it is healthy for the Metaverse for there to be player movements, stirs the waters if you will.

We're here to help whether you join or not. As far as that goes, I'm not sure. Our emperor sent me an invitation via email. There's a way to join without that, but I don't remember how. Would the emperor or another senator send The Mad Dragon an invite? Thanks in advance.

I replied to one of your other posts about the defense bonus when you keep your ships in orbit. Neilo had a great idea about using armed cargo hulls to boost your military strength. Having a sufficient military is the key to avoiding war.

The economy is the most important aspect of the game. That doesn't mean having ready cash available, but rather the potential to fund your projects and military.

Tech trading is the easiest way to boost your economy short term. Sell whatever tech you have to all of the AIs in the same turn in order to get ahead in tech trading. Military tech is valued by the AI, but is the least important to the human player. Sell your military techs and keep your diplo and planetary invasion techs for yourself. Always give up a defense tech for money. Defense is the least valuable tech, but sells for a nice price. Attack is the next lowest value tech for a real human.

Hmmm, I see.

So, can someone list the techs of importance, from most to least? This would be a great assest. I turned off tech trading, because I read somewhere that it should be turned off(can't remember for what reason).

I'd also like to mention that I am playing DL, not DA. I plan on getting DA in the near future.

As for the help, everything. I understand the VERY basics. Beyond that I'm clueless. I've posted what I did in one of my previous games. I understand the game is there to ahve fun, but losing constantly is no fun. I don't want to reduce the difficulty, because I will never learn.

Personally i leave tech trading on. Selling techs to the AI when your cash starpped and trading for some valuable weapons is paramount, especially when your economy is in the crapper. i would say playing without tech trading would be an advanced game.

Techs of importance??? Well that depends on what type of game you are playing. If on a large map i try and get impulse drive 3 as quick as i can. it really helps out with your survey vessels to get the all important anomolies. The first level of diplomacy is a must, to get Diplomatic translators, and level of terraforming to get aphrodesiac and go as far up the research branch as quick as you can for a boost in you research ability.

A quick rundown on what i go for 1st,

Sensors 1 ( for the survey module to build new survey ships, anomolies = cash!
Hyperdrive - New Propulsion Techniques - Ion Drive, continue on till impluse 3 asap
Xeno Communications - Universal Translator - Diplomatic Relations (for diplomatic translators)
Then i get to laser 5 as quick as i can.

next is the planetary invasion tech and then onto the terraforming techs to get Aphrodisiac.

That is quick list, and varies from game to game, but that is pretty close. After those i go for trade and then head for the galactic stock exchanges, don't get industrial sector too early, it will cripple your economy.

Remember, to avoid getting attacked too early, try and keep your military rating in the top 3 or 4 and be sure to get as many military resources as possible to give that extra little boost in weapons.

For my part, I don't mind the HCH forum being quiet. Most empire threads start off great guns then taper off to an occasional trickle after a couple of months. I don't really find the atmosphere there all that "mature"... but then I have a character in the Gerontocracy, too, so go figure.

Plus, my main character, The Corinthian, has been part of the HCH almost since its inception, and he played his part in their meteoric rise to 1st place, so I plan to keep him there. My personal goal for that character is 50 games or Top 25.

After that (if I ever get that much game time...) I will probably spend some time with the Evil Altarians. I like having characters in different empires; even though it doesn't impact the play of the game one bit, it's like having a different backstory when I switch between characters.
