Yeah i had to re-register both DL and DA to play as well, i did it from the impulse orb thingy.
I just finished my game and subbed it. I played a giga abundant all scattered stars suicidal game and used no mumbler techniques.
i colonized the hell out of the game and did not draw it our for score. I didnt even go after all the resources or anything, just jumped on the AI as fast as i could.
Here is my effort, and its the first time i have played suicidal that wasn't a ZYW or a mumbler.

Sorry about not being on Skype mate, i didnt even realize it wasn't on, my pc has really turned on me. I got all my parts now, so i'll start backing up and building the new pc today. My skype is on though and i will be able to play some DG if your keen and able mate. Just hit me up on skype, it's on!! lol

Nice game Neilo!     I don't remember much about it either, but I'm sure it'll come back to us if we poked around ingame for a while.

No prob about Skype and Demigod.  I'm back on long hours again, so my gaming time will be cut short.  A TBS like Galciv2 might suit me better for now since I can save it and walk away.

I removed all traces of Impulse from my machine last night and got the serial number update from the Stardock site.  I didn't even have to uninstall DA to get it to work.  I just updated the serial and logged into the Metaverse just to test it.  I might try a game tonight if I can set some time aside.

As the game comes back to us i think we can pursue a new type of game. the game where you win as fast as yuo can, but via colonizing, not mumbler or ZYW. Would be intersting to see what "traditional" scores are attainable. I'll ponder on this more tomorrow, need to be a new cpu cooler and get reinstalled!

@Mottikhan

The crash appears to be related to user credentials not correctly getting copied/written to HKCU registry locations. Workaround: Extracting the contents of http://sd.stardock.com/gc2_ultimate_2.04.2.zip to the GalCiv2\Twilight directory should also fix the crash. More/better fix to make sure all HKCU settings keys are set properly from registration: Start / Run / regedit.exe (will request elevation) Delete HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Stardock\Settings Erase C:\ProgramData\Stardock\GC2UL\sig.bin (will request elevation) May need to remove the sig.bin from ProgramData\Stardock\Twilight instead. Run the GalCiv2\Twilight\GC2TwilightoftheArnor.exe and enter your Stardock account information and serial when prompted. This will update the registry keys in HKCU that you just removed as well to cache the user credentials the Metaverse login is expecting. If you are still having problems, please email kwilas at stardock.com directly. Kris

@Neilo - Yeah, I think I could get into some regular games.  Maybe some mass colonizing and such.  I remember the blank hull upgrade trick for surveyors, colonizers and constructors.  It might be time to revisit that old tactic.

Good luck with the new build.  I bet it's a screamer.

@SaintMina - Hi, and thanks for the info.  If the game crashes after I launch it, I'll reset the sig.bin.  For now at least, the Metaverse login seems to be working.

<edit> For anyone reading who will be resetting the sig.bin, your old metaverse game will likely show a cheat flag if you started a game with the old sig.bin and try to submit the end game after crafting the new one.  We had issues related to changes like these back in the old days with upgrades and whatnot.  To be safe, start a new metaverse game after the reset and don't try to resubmit any old ones. </edit>

Ha! I used that old trick a little! I went the old route of building out planetsolely for Manu. I'll start another game in a few days.

So, for those not in he know, i'm building a new Pc. Corei5 2500k, GTX560ti, 16GB Corsair Vengeance ram, 120GB Corsair Force SSD, on a gigabyte Z68 board, all in my antec 900 case with my thermaltake toughpower 1000w PSU. I wanted to run my old DuoOrb cpu cooler, cause, well for one thing, it does a good job and fix what aint broke, and two...it looks killer.

But.......DuoOrb cooler won't fit in the new rig, the Corsair Vengeance ram i bought has 75mm heatsinks, and the cooler doesn't have the height to allow for that. So i head off to a pc part superstore in Sydney to buy me a new cooler. I get home after a collective day of 6 hours on trains (cheaper than driving my thirsty V8) get home open the cooler and it still covers the #1 ram slot!!!!!

So that was wedensday. Thursday i get to do the train trips all over again, return the cpu cooler and pick me up a complete thermaltake water cooling kit. It's another $70 but at least i will able to run all 16GB of my ram......

If it wasn't going to hurt so much, i'd facepalm myself for hours, not so much for my stupidity, but for having do Sydney by train all over again!!!

Nice system, Neilo.  That should be able to handle anything you throw at it.

I wish we had a decent public transportation system here in Central Texas.  Our only option is to have a car or truck unless you want to take your life in your hands and go two-wheeled.  Motorcycles might as well have targets painted on them.   There's the bus in the larger cities, but they run slow enough that walking can be serious competition.  My truck is also a V8 and my wife's car is not only a V8, but wants premium gas.  They're both fun to drive, so I guess I can't complain.  Still, riding the subways in London and New York and trains in Chicago has me wishing we had something like that.

I started a DA metaverse game last night.  Suicidal, gigantic map, all abundant, scattered, tech set to very fast.  Being a techie, I went Altarian.  It gave me that race as a default anyway, so why not?  Not much time to spend in there and I was pretty slow about choosing each move.  I forgot most of the UI.

I was quickly reminded of how important the minor races are in floating the economy.  My tech is screaming and I'm buying most of what I care to produce.  But the money stays yellow and runs into the red quite frequently.  I wonder about the AI.  They're not gaining techs very fast and their economies look as bad as mine.  Maybe they're wasting money by adding excess stuff to their ships.  I can see scouts flying around, so that's probably where a lot of it went.  My blank hull colonizers are scouting for me.

The minors are fat and willing to pay for any tech I care to dole out.  I've met 3 so far almost exactly when I needed them.  They kept me from hitting that -500 mark until my last move.

I just built the Spin Control Center and saved the game before shutting it down.  My economy went way into the red when I did that, so I hope I can do some trading when I fire it back up.  I don't have a military to speak of, so I might have jumped the gun on getting the SCC.  Time will tell.

I have just under 20 planets.  I think it was 18 when I looked at the list.  AFAIK, my closest competition has maybe 6 or 7.  There are colonizers flying everywhere, so I'm sure that'll change per turn.  I don't have the range to see what the middle of the map looks like.  I hope there's a planet out there for me to do some staging.  I'm stuck in the lower right area, but not boxed in.

I've found two of my favorite resources out there.  One Morale and one Military.  Sadly, I don't have any constructors and little money to set aside for such ventures.  Enemy scouts are close to them, so it would probably be a waste of effort to upgrade a blank.  I'll take them later when the wars start.

Your game seems to have been played in 1 day, Neilo.  That, and it was a 3 year game.  I've barely gotten through the middle of year 0.  You'll probably be done with your second or third game before I can get through my first.  Oh well.  I'll poke along and hopefully get some decent score out of it.

Good hunting.

I'll read that soon Motti, just checking in before jumping on the trains again, and wanted to drop Mumble a hello in the ToE thread!

I have a question:

Can you submit games that has been played in Twilight of Arnor or it needs to be Dark Avatar?

I have a question:

You can submit any game that's started as a metaverse game as long as you don't install updates between starting and finishing the game.  DL, DA and TA can all be metaverse games.

I played across 2 days I think, but I had time to sit on it for hours mate. I didn't colonize too extreme first off, I just took about the sectors around my home, maybe about 20~25 planets and then focused on getting my Econ going. I didn't build the MCC till I'd colonized those planets and really needed an Econ boost, plus I held off on the SCC for a bit too. I was lucky to have an Econ resource near my home planet so I took full advantage of that. once I was heading in the right direction, I went back to building colonizers and took maybe another 50 or so, built a farm on each and econed the rest of the planet.

Like u said mate, the minors made the difference tho, especially in gaining tech.

Just as soon as I was going green in bc, I started going after the major races. I perhaps left more than 60~70% of the planets untouched, just took down the majors, used their Manu production in the spaceports to build another troop ship and just kept leapfrogging. Had to build a few military ships, but the seemed to be building nothing but freighters, to the point of killing their Econ.

By this afternoon i should have new rig up and running and will get another game going. I'm thinking a medium game with some mumbled tactics. By that I mean maxing out tech, all resources, population and building out Econ on every planet.

Speaking of population, can u recall the pop sweet spot for planets. Was it 13B or were we taking each planet out to 20B?

on Jan 11, 2012

I thought it was 21b each, but that might have just been the homeworlds.  If I remember correctly, 1 maxed out farm each and up to a farm on a 100% booster tile each was the target.  We stayed away from the multiple bonus tiles as I recall.  It's been a while though.

Numbers of 21b for homeworlds and 16b for others keep rattling around in my noggin for some reason.  Do those numbers mean anything to you?

Yeah, I'm looking forward to the MCC.  I don't remember the tech needed to get there, but I'll find it after I fire the game up again.  I'll try to get in an hour tonight if I can.

2 days is pretty impressive.  You have a quick memory to be able to run through it so quickly.  I'm so rusty at it that I'm almost starting over.

MottiKhan

I thought it was flipped from that with 16B for homeworlds with no farms and no VRC's and 20B for PQ11's and above with 2 farms and 2 VRC's (I think) and 13B with 1 farm and 1 or perhaps no VRC's for PQ10's and below (although usually relatively few of these in a DA game IIRC). Assuming of course a gigantic galaxy's standard complement of 6 or more Morale resources to mine.

But it's been so long I might be totally wrong. I think the max farm is 7B and the pop capacity of a non homeworld starts at 6B so 13B is one farm, 20B is 2 farms and 16B plus 1 farm is to high. Of course you could always build an obsolete farm to get different choices but these seem pretty reasonable dependent of course on your overall morale and your tolerance or lack thereof of allowing your approval to sag.

I haven't been to this site in ages but it's good to see some of the old guys back around. I got an email from DA a couple of months ago but then nothing.

It was sad to see the ToE site go away but it had obviously run its course. Nothing lasts forever not the least of which is the life that this old forum used to have.

Oh well no use pining for a past that's gone forever.

I thought about renewing toe.com again but in the weeks leading up to the renewal deadline, we had zero activity. No point throwing away good money. I still have a toe PayPal with plenty of funds in it, should we ever want to set up again, a'la GC3, we can easily do so.

In the game I just played I was building one farm level 3 and one VR centre for 13b pop, but it wasn't massively profitable, and too easy toomold high morale. Maybe 20b was the number. I'd hate to have to ask the kzin to be sure!

lol
