Hi all and welcome to the Tyranny of Evil. The Tyranny of Evil is a dedicated Metaverse empire that has risen to prominence in just 1 year. 2nd place on the AltMeta and a soon to be 3rd place in the MV is no small feat from an empire with ~39 active players.

Dedicated to the pursuit of evil, we encourage all players, new or veterans, to join us in our quest to be the strongest, most active and long lived empire in the Metaverse.

We pride ourselves on being one of the most active empires in the MV or the Altmeta, and it is that activity that makes us unique. Our members are active submitters of games and have a very strong and prominent forum presence.

I had a go at creating one improvement to see how it would look. I'm no good at making 3-D looking objects from scratch, so I found some good pictures of motorcycle engine parts and decided to make a factory icon out of one of them. Here's what I ended up with:



Each icon has a corresponding query graphic that shows up in the bottom corner when you select the building, so I made one of those using a color-enhanced Venus surface picture as the backdrop:



I replaced the industrial center image in my icons folder with the new factory and viddied my home planet in the game. The glow is done with different settings, but I like the scabrous, radioactive look it gives them:



If you want to try it out for yourself, go into the folder C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\Gfx\Improvements\icons, find the file BasicFactory.png, and rename it to something else. Then save the first image above with that name in that folder. Do the same thing in the query folder with the second image, if you like. Then start a new game and voila! You have evil factories. Muahahahaha!

Of course, this also gives the other races evil factories, but that's all right, because soon they will be yours anyway!

I know very little about all that stuff  I believe there's lots of that crap in my pc that has not been looked at yet. Maybe i'll take a look at it after some beer and work one day.

I think that new factory looks awesome! A suggestion would be that the backround aura be red. I think this new evil building mod pack would be cool! I don't really want to change any files yet though until all (or most) of the buildings are changed...

Jeez marshall, I wish I could make crap like that... I'm jealous...

WOW, very nice! An entire Tyranny of evil mod would be cool. Has anyone done that, made a mod based around their empire?

Would be a first i think. I know i will use them and they are MV friendly so that is a plus.

That looks great, MarshallONeil!   

I like the green aura. It has an evil Borg-like thing going for it. Venus in the background is a nice touch too.

I had an unusual amount of downtime today, so I spent it making some more evil buildings. Here's my first pass at the factory line of buildings - in the order I made them, not necessarily in tech tree order:



I like the sickly green glow; it makes it look like irreparable ecological damage is being spread by the mere presence of the building. I do like red better for a factory color, however, so I replaced the earlier necromantic purple with blood red.

I doubt the rest will go this fast, but a little progress is better than none.

Very nice, yes the red looks better than the purple. I really like no 3....great work mate!!

Wow! No wonder this page took so long to load... Those are cool! I like numbers (from my fav to least fav) 4, 2, 1, 5, 3.

On a side note: Neilo, anyone with connections at the core, I have been trying to get on the core, but there is an error:

HTTP 404 Not Found

Could you guys talk to dregin, tech, or damoose about this? I logged on yesterday once, but before and after that this error occured... And I deleted my cookies for the core too, so I don't think that's the problem...

They recently changed hosts and part of the new path might not have been updated yet. You can get there directly (Bypassing the DNS Server) by using http://216.64.142.120 in place of the URL. (Copy the IP address into your browser). Once there, just click on the ENTER FORUM button.

The DNS Server should update before too long. If not, do a tracert on "thegalacticcore.com". With the route, we can find the faulty part of the path and inform the administrator.

P.S. Don't post the results of the tracert here. It'll give your IP address to those who have no business having it. You can PM or email Drengin with the path instead of posting it.

I decided to play the game rather than mess around with graphics tonight, but I found a cool image of a device that reminded me of a starport, so I had to try it out. It's supposed to look like a tower rising out of a pit, but I'm not sure how well it works. I'm also experimenting with Factory 3; it was too light-colored and the green glass didn't look so hot with the green glow, so I modified it a bit. Here's my latest screenshot of Corinth I:



Has anybody asked Macmatt about setting up an area in his forum?

More downtime today, devoted to evil architecture. I thought it might be better to base a line of buildings around a central theme rather than a hodgepodge of structures, so I made a line of factories based on my old no. 3. Using the same basic structure, they progress in size and complexity but are still visually tied together. I also redid the starport. The original one looked, I dunno, neutral or something wimpy like that.



I'll do more once we secure a better area to store these things.
