There is a way to tell if the game is Mv or sandbox. It's in the games .xml file or the debugg.err. I cannot recal, but there is a entry that says - Game Type - then next to it would be Metaverse, Sandbox or Campaign i think.

Kyro would know what im talking about an direct you straight to it if you pm him about it.

FYI, in the library there is a mod that highlights the MV button on the main screen. It IIRC it does not affect the MV at all as its just a UI change. This may help to make sure games you start are MV.

I will look for the file in question....

Ok, one way to tell is....Only works with completed game i think.

Look in the folder for the version you played in My Games, look in the Metaverse folder.

For my last completed game it was DA so my path is,

C:\Users\BMF\Documents\My Games\GC2DarkAvatar\Metaverse

You should find a XML file in there that corresponds to your game in question. If not than you may well have started a sandbox game. The XML file will have a name that has the date of completion and about 9 other numbers...

20090210123456789.XML, something like that.

It will list the character you played with, the score, the difficaulty level (represented by a number 11 is suicidal), galaxy size and even your serial, so dont post that file in here.

If you don't find that file, provided you have not deleted that folder for whatever reason, then i'd say it was not a MV game. Look then in the SandboxGames folder and see if there is a corresponding XML for that game in there.

This is still not the file i was talking about but should tell you all the same.

Here is yet another way mate.

Provided you have not started another game since the one in question open your debugg.err file in notepad ++ or any text editor.

The debugg.err file is in your \My Game\GC2Version_you_played folder.

Look for this entry in the debugg.err.

Debug Message:  UIBeginGameHelper: New Metaverse Game Started

If you cannot find that entry anywhere then it was not a MV game, provided that is the correct debugg.err. A debugg file is created for every game you play, so if you have played any other game since the one your trying to submit then it will not be the correct .err file.

Hope all or some of that helps mate. Thats a fantastic score and you deserve to have it submitted.

This is pretty depressing,

it is.  i hope you find solace in the fact that 400+,  within a week,  is very well done

Neilo,

Thanks for the complete guide to figuring this out. It was, indeed, user error and I found the game in the sandbox folder. Good karma to you.

Thanks jacklv for the support. I'll just go do this again and make sure I am in MV this time.

on Feb 11, 2009

i think we've all done that at least once at some point. there are times when i'm getting into a game and start to wonder, so i surrender to an AI just to make sure i can submit.

on Feb 11, 2009

No problrms Clanlindsey, i just feel for you mate. 400K is a terrific game and to have lost it must really piss you off.

Just know that your in good company though, as Dys said, we have all done it.

on Feb 11, 2009

Good advice Dystopic, but unfortunately I am playing with surrender turned off. Is there any other way to check mid-game whether you are in sandbox or MV?

on Feb 11, 2009

In a current game, if you quit out and check the debugg.err look for this entry, it will tell you the game type...

Debug Message:  Loading: game mode is metaverse.

That should help you mate.

on Feb 11, 2009

Even easier, jut retire, and it will give you the option to post the game if its a MV one.

Touché....

So, learning my lesson, I finished a new MV huge mumbler game this weekend, and made absolutely sure it was an MV game this time. Finished with a score of 497k! Now it's time to move on up to gigantic suicidal mumblers like the rest of you. Thanks for all the pointers on how not to waste a great score for your team by unknowingly dinking around in sandbox mode.

Hey, Neilo, what's a guy gotta do to make senator around here?

on Feb 16, 2009

Well exactly what your doing mate! We are just debating as to what means to attribute senator status to the members. We're trying to make being a senator a bit more meanigful than it currently is. But dont worry though, your on the list!

Nice game too BTW. And you finished it very quickly!

Spectacular job CL! That's an incredible score, and you posted it in a very short time-frame. Great work (and I'm happy to see it's an MV score)!

You definitely get cool points from Piznit.  And some karma.  Because both of those things are valued like gold!  And by gold I mean Monopoly money.  That was handled by a leper.  And then sneezed on...but very valuable nonetheless!
