Hey Guys..

I signed up for some evil kitty stompin' a couple of weeks ago  and figured I should stop and say hi. I haven't posted alot of score recently as I've been working on my first Gig/All Abundent...which I'm having difficulties finishing. Now that I have several thousand tiny 1/1's flying to my array it's taking my poor, old PC like 4 HRS per turn to move all my ships. Guess I'll have to stick w/ small maps 'till my new hardware arrives this weekend. In the meantime I posted up a 100k medium for you guys this morning.

I can't really do ZYWs as 1) I'm still running DL and 2) nine times outta ten  when I do a ZYW  I run into a weird research bug...namely, no matter how many research points I'm generating I only learn one tech per round...and yes, very fast tech is most definately selected. This doesn't occurr when I'm playing a non-ZYW type game. Any Ideas?

Oh, I saw a couple of pages back that I've been granted Senator-ship. WooHoo!!! But what does that mean?

Well, that was long winded enough for a first post. I gotta get back to kicking some kitty a$$.

Hands up, Kitty!!

You just broke my mind.

You're telling me the game can predict whether you're going to attempt a ZYW?

on Jan 26, 2009

Yeah, that wasn't exactly clear....my normal play-style is all industry w/ focus on research so i'm not usually putting out 400+ research by turn three. But yeah, I agree, it makes no sense whatsoever.

Welcome to the ToE Random70!

Off-hand question, but have you set one of your characters to default yet? I don't see any medals on the bottom line of your post - you should at least have the ToE's 2nd place medal, along with any medals pertaining to that 100K game you played recently. Just wondering.

Best Regards.

~ Cypher ~

Edit: Never mind - I can see them now. My computer (or my eyes) is running a little slow these days.

i've noticed in ZYWs on DA there seems to be a limit on how many techs per turn (3) you can get in the early game. it's not something i've had any desire to test, tho, but it definately seems like that's what's going on.

How about now?

Galaxy size and difficulty?

Galaxy size has an increase on tech cost-I don't remember presently but it's close to 2x on gigantic as it is on tiny.

(And just for the record you can do this on gigantic but you need to run all rare.)

The ZYW people are using Suicidal, even if they don't normally play on it, both for maximum points via difficulty level, and for the hidden bonus to a bonus that you get for research (each 1 point bonus of research counts as 2.64 points of bonus at Suicidal).

Also, TA or DA?  The tech capital only gives +100% base research in TA-I'm not sure offhand when the change happened, though.  (For all intents and purposes at this point it can be treated as a racial bonus for the planet-it is technically additive with, anyway-and as such it no longer multiplies by your racial bonuses.)  So your research output will be significantly higher in DA-not to mention the tech capital is also much easier to get to.

How about now?

I edited my post above - my computer's running several programs right now, so it's a bit on the slow side. Your medals show up fine now - it just took awhile.

Welcome Random and Clan Lindsey if i hadn't done so yet . Minds slipping a little these days . Some great games being put out by you guys. Keep up the great work , Evil never sleeps(at least not when people are looking)

@Dystopic...

Two things 1) I haven't migrated to  DA yet, I'm running DL 1.5 and 2) It's not just limited techs, It's ONE stinkin' tech per turn. Tried one out yesterday as Terrans (to get race medal) Selected max tech race pick, technologist party, spending slider to 100%, research to 100%. Got a home world w/ a precursor library. Suicidal Gigantic

Turn 1: rush built lab on precursor, researched Xeno Res

Turn 2: rush buy 2nd lab, research Adv Computing (did not get Basic Mini)

Turn 3: rush buy tech capital, research new propulsion

After buying the tech cap I had 424 research iirc. I learned new prop the next turn, and that's it...1 tech. Nor was there any "tech overrun" into Ion drive...just exactly one tech.

When I play a 'normal' game I don't get alot of research done initially. If I can get a tech in one turn I'm happy. But later when I'm rolling I can go back to something that I initially skipped, say armor, and rip through most of the chain in one turn. A riddle inside a mystery wrapped in an enigma

Actually, Cypher after you mentioned it I went into my profile and set one of my characters to default. Thx for the heads up.

- Affectionately pats his computer -

Oh, computer, you haven't failed me yet.

- Visciously rubs his eyes -

Don't test my patience, unworthy eyeballs.

on Jan 27, 2009

I found it, Random.

It's not a limit of 1 tech per turn.

It's a limit of 1 tech per owned planet per turn.

I need to go to sleep now, so I'll check on whether that applies in DA/TA later.
